Exploited in the wild (CISA KEV). Metabase is an open source data analytics platform.
CISA KEV · added 2024-11-12 CVSS 10.0 Critical EPSS 97.2% · p99.9
Should you act?
Exploited: patch now if you run it
CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.
- Yes, if you run Metabase Metabase. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2024-11-12, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2024-12-03; treat that as the outer limit, not the target.
- EPSS 97.2%, percentile 99.9: FIRST’s model estimates a 97.2% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99.9% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
What it is
Metabase is an open source data analytics platform. In affected versions a security issue has been discovered with the custom GeoJSON map (admin->settings->maps->custom maps->add a map) support and potential local file inclusion (including environment variables). URLs were not validated prior to being loaded. This issue is fixed in a new maintenance release (0.40.5 and 1.40.5), and any subsequent release after that. If you’re unable to upgrade immediately, you can mitigate this by including rules in your reverse proxy or load balancer or WAF to provide a validation filter before the application.
CISA’s summary
Metabase contains a local file inclusion vulnerability in the custom map support in the API to read GeoJSON formatted data.
