# CVE-2023-26153: geokit-rails Command Injection vulnerability

**Signal:** Normal patch cycle. No exploitation signal; fix it in your next routine update if you are affected. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- Not in CISA KEV , but CISA’s SSVC assessment records a public proof-of-concept, so attack code exists.
- EPSS 3.8% , percentile 90: FIRST’s model estimates a 3.8% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 90% of all scored CVEs (elevated). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
- Only applies if your dependency tree includes geokit-rails (RubyGems) < 2.5.0, fixed in 2.5.0 . Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.

## What it is

Versions of the package geokit-rails before 2.5.0 are vulnerable to Command Injection due to unsafe deserialisation of YAML within the 'geolocation' cookie. This issue can be exploited remotely via a malicious cookie value. Note: An attacker can use this vulnerability to execute commands on the host system.

## Affected packages

- RubyGems `geokit-rails` < 2.5.0 → fixed: 2.5.0

## Affected products (CVE record)

- n/a geokit-rails: < 2.5.0

## Severity

- snyk CVSS 3.1: 8.3 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:P`
- GitHub CVSS 3.1: 9.8 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation poc , automatable yes , technical impact partial .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 3.85% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 90.
