# CVE-2024-23898: Jenkins Project Jenkins vulnerability

**Signal:** High exploit likelihood. EPSS ranks it in the top 5% of all CVEs for likely exploitation in the next 30 days. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- No confirmed exploitation. It is not in CISA’s KEV catalog and CISA’s SSVC assessment records no known exploitation. That can change quickly after a public write-up; re-check if you are affected.
- EPSS 67.2% , percentile 99: FIRST’s model estimates a 67.2% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Needs a user to click or open something. Phishing makes that realistic, but it is not wormable.
- Editorial verdict: Act now. Jenkins CLI Arbitrary File Read (CVE-2024-23897) — An unpatched Jenkins controller reachable by untrusted users leaks files and secrets that can lead to full takeover; upgrade now or disable the CLI.

## What it is

Jenkins 2.217 through 2.441 (both inclusive), LTS 2.222.1 through 2.426.2 (both inclusive) does not perform origin validation of requests made through the CLI WebSocket endpoint, resulting in a cross-site WebSocket hijacking (CSWSH) vulnerability, allowing attackers to execute CLI commands on the Jenkins controller.

## Affected products (CVE record)

- Jenkins Project Jenkins: see advisory

## Severity

- CISA-ADP CVSS 3.1: 8.8 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none , automatable no , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 67.15% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 99.
