Should you act?

Exploited: patch now if you run it

CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.

  • Yes, if you run CyberPersons CyberPanel. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2024-11-07, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2024-11-28; treat that as the outer limit, not the target. CISA also lists it as known to be used in ransomware campaigns.
  • EPSS 84.4%, percentile 99.7: FIRST’s model estimates a 84.4% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99.7% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
  • Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.

What it is

upgrademysqlstatus in databases/views.py in CyberPanel (aka Cyber Panel) before 5b08cd6 allows remote attackers to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary commands via /dataBases/upgrademysqlstatus by bypassing secMiddleware (which is only for a POST request) and using shell metacharacters in the statusfile property, as exploited in the wild in October 2024 by PSAUX. Versions through 2.3.6 and (unpatched) 2.3.7 are affected.

CISA’s summary

CyberPanel contains an incorrect default permissions vulnerability that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute commands as root.
