# CVE-2024-54676: Apache OpenMeetings vulnerable to Deserialization of Untrusted Data

**Signal:** High exploit likelihood. EPSS ranks it in the top 5% of all CVEs for likely exploitation in the next 30 days. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- No confirmed exploitation. It is not in CISA’s KEV catalog and CISA’s SSVC assessment records no known exploitation. That can change quickly after a public write-up; re-check if you are affected.
- EPSS 68.8% , percentile 99: FIRST’s model estimates a 68.8% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
- Only applies if your dependency tree includes org.apache.openmeetings:openmeetings-parent (Maven) >= 2.1.0, < 8.0.0, fixed in 8.0.0 . Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.

## What it is

Vendor: The Apache Software Foundation Versions Affected: Apache OpenMeetings from 2.1.0 before 8.0.0 Description: Default clustering instructions at https://openmeetings.apache.org/Clustering.html doesn't specify white/black lists for OpenJPA this leads to possible deserialisation of untrusted data. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 8.0.0 and update their startup scripts to include the relevant 'openjpa.serialization.class.blacklist' and 'openjpa.serialization.class.whitelist' configurations as shown in the documentation.

## Affected packages

- Maven `org.apache.openmeetings:openmeetings-parent` >= 2.1.0, < 8.0.0 → fixed: 8.0.0

## Affected products (CVE record)

- Apache Software Foundation Apache OpenMeetings: 2.1 < 8.0.0

## Severity

- CISA-ADP CVSS 3.1: 9.8 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H`
- GitHub CVSS 4.0: 9.3 `CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none , automatable yes , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 68.78% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 99.
