# CVE-2024-8956: PTZOptics PT30X-SDI/NDI Cameras Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

**Signal:** Exploited: patch now if you run it. CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- Yes, if you run PTZOptics PT30X-SDI/NDI Cameras. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2024-11-04, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2024-11-25 ; treat that as the outer limit, not the target.
- EPSS 58.8% , percentile 99: FIRST’s model estimates a 58.8% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.

## What it is

PTZOptics PT30X-SDI/NDI-xx before firmware 6.3.40 is vulnerable to an insufficient authentication issue. The camera does not properly enforce authentication to /cgi-bin/param.cgi when requests are sent without an HTTP Authorization header. The result is a remote and unauthenticated attacker can leak sensitive data such as usernames, password hashes, and configurations details. Additionally, the attacker can update individual configuration values or overwrite the whole file.

## Affected products (CVE record)

- PTZOptics PT30X-SDI: < 6.3.40
- PTZOptics PT30X-NDI: < 6.3.40

## Severity

- VulnCheck CVSS 3.1: 9.1 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: added 2024-11-04; federal due date 2024-11-25. Known ransomware use: Unknown.
- CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation active , automatable yes , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 58.79% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 99.
