# CVE-2025-2304: Camaleon CMS Vulnerable to Privilege Escalation through a Mass Assignment

**Signal:** Critical, preconditions apply. Severe if exploited, but exploitation needs conditions that may not apply to you. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- No confirmed exploitation. It is not in CISA’s KEV catalog and CISA’s SSVC assessment records no known exploitation. That can change quickly after a public write-up; re-check if you are affected.
- EPSS 0.6% , percentile 49: FIRST’s model estimates a 0.6% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 49% of all scored CVEs (low). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Needs an account (low (any account)). Exposure depends on who can log in.
- Only applies if your dependency tree includes camaleon_cms (RubyGems) < 2.9.1, fixed in 2.9.1 . Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.

## What it is

A Privilege Escalation through a Mass Assignment exists in Camaleon CMS When a user wishes to change his password, the 'updatedajax' method of the UsersController is called. The vulnerability stems from the use of the dangerous permit! method, which allows all parameters to pass through without any filtering.

## Affected packages

- RubyGems `camaleon_cms` < 2.9.1 → fixed: 2.9.1

## Affected products (CVE record)

- owen2345 camaleon-cms: see advisory

## Severity

- tenable CVSS 4.0: 9.4 `CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H`
- GitHub CVSS 4.0: 9.4 `CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none , automatable yes , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 0.63% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 49.
