# CVE-2025-23266: NVIDIA Container Toolkit for all platforms contains an Untrusted Search Path

**Signal:** Critical, preconditions apply. Severe if exploited, but exploitation needs conditions that may not apply to you. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- No confirmed exploitation. It is not in CISA’s KEV catalog and CISA’s SSVC assessment records no known exploitation. That can change quickly after a public write-up; re-check if you are affected.
- EPSS 3.3% , percentile 89: FIRST’s model estimates a 3.3% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 89% of all scored CVEs (elevated). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Needs an account (low (any account)). Exposure depends on who can log in.
- Only applies if your dependency tree includes github.com/NVIDIA/nvidia-container-toolkit (Go) < 1.17.8, fixed in 1.17.8 ; github.com/NVIDIA/k8s-device-plugin (Go) < 0.17.3, fixed in 0.17.3 ; github.com/NVIDIA/gpu-operator (Go) < 25.3.2, fixed in 25.3.2 ; github.com/NVIDIA/mig-parted (Go) < 0.12.2, fixed in 0.12.2 . Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.

## What it is

NVIDIA Container Toolkit for all platforms contains a vulnerability in some hooks used to initialize the container, where an attacker could execute arbitrary code with elevated permissions. A successful exploit of this vulnerability might lead to escalation of privileges, data tampering, information disclosure, and denial of service.

## Affected packages

- Go `github.com/NVIDIA/nvidia-container-toolkit` < 1.17.8 → fixed: 1.17.8
- Go `github.com/NVIDIA/k8s-device-plugin` < 0.17.3 → fixed: 0.17.3
- Go `github.com/NVIDIA/gpu-operator` < 25.3.2 → fixed: 25.3.2
- Go `github.com/NVIDIA/mig-parted` < 0.12.2 → fixed: 0.12.2

## Affected products (CVE record)

- NVIDIA Container Toolkit: NVIDIA Container Toolkit All versions up to and including 1.17.7 (CDI mode only for versions prior to 1.17.5), NVIDIA GPU Operator All versions up to and including 25.3.0 (CDI mode only for versions prior to 25.3.0)

## Severity

- nvidia CVSS 3.1: 9 `CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H`
- GitHub CVSS 3.1: 9.0 `CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none , automatable no , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 3.32% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 89.
