Should you act?

Exploited: patch now if you run it

CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.

  • Yes, if you run Erlang Erlang/OTP. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2025-06-09, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2025-06-30; treat that as the outer limit, not the target.
  • EPSS 98.8%, percentile 99.9: FIRST’s model estimates a 98.8% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99.9% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
  • Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
  • Editorial verdict: Check exposure. Erlang/OTP SSH: Unauthenticated RCE (CVE-2025-32433) — The OTP fix is 18 months old, but the bug hides inside appliances and OT gear that patch slowly; inventory anything exposing an Erlang SSH daemon rather than assuming your servers' OpenSSH covers you.

What it is

Erlang/OTP is a set of libraries for the Erlang programming language. Prior to versions OTP-27.3.3, OTP-26.2.5.11, and OTP-25.3.2.20, a SSH server may allow an attacker to perform unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE). By exploiting a flaw in SSH protocol message handling, a malicious actor could gain unauthorized access to affected systems and execute arbitrary commands without valid credentials. This issue is patched in versions OTP-27.3.3, OTP-26.2.5.11, and OTP-25.3.2.20. A temporary workaround involves disabling the SSH server or to prevent access via firewall rules.

CISA’s summary

Erlang Erlang/OTP SSH server contains a missing authentication for critical function vulnerability. This could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands without valid credentials, potentially leading to unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE). By exploiting a flaw in how SSH protocol messages are handled, a malicious actor could gain unauthorized access to affected systems. This vulnerability could affect various products that implement Erlang/OTP SSH server, including—but not limited to—Cisco, NetApp, and SUSE.

Exploitation and urgency

  • CISA KEV: added 2025-06-09; federal due date 2025-06-30. Known ransomware use: Unknown.
  • CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation active, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 98.79% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 99.9.
