# CVE-2025-8088: RARLAB WinRAR Path Traversal Vulnerability

**Signal:** Exploited: patch now if you run it. CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- Yes, if you run RARLAB WinRAR. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2025-08-12, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2025-09-02 ; treat that as the outer limit, not the target. CISA also lists it as known to be used in ransomware campaigns .
- EPSS 94.5% , percentile 99.9: FIRST’s model estimates a 94.5% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99.9% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Needs local access needed. Lower urgency for most teams unless an attacker could already run code on the machine.
- Editorial verdict: Check exposure. WinRAR CVE-2025-8088: ADS Path Traversal Exploited by RomCom — Fixed since July 2025 but still heavily exploited, and WinRAR does not update itself, so hunt down every copy at 7.12 or older and update it today.
