Should you act?
Critical and remotely reachable
No known exploitation yet, but it is network-reachable without credentials. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.
- No confirmed exploitation. It is not in CISA’s KEV catalog and CISA’s SSVC assessment records no known exploitation. That can change quickly after a public write-up; re-check if you are affected.
- EPSS 0.6%, percentile 49: FIRST’s model estimates a 0.6% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 49% of all scored CVEs (low). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
- Only applies if your dependency tree includes
codechecker(PyPI) <= 6.27.3, no fixed version listed. Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.
What it is
CodeChecker is an analyzer tooling, defect database and viewer extension for the Clang Static Analyzer and Clang Tidy. Authentication bypass occurs when the URL ends with Authentication with certain function calls. This bypass allows assigning arbitrary permission to any user existing in CodeChecker. This issue affects CodeChecker: through 6.27.3.
From the GitHub advisory
Summary Authentication bypass occurs when the URL ends with Authentication with certain function calls. This bypass allows assigning arbitrary permissions to any existing user in CodeChecker.
Details
The following functions are affected under the Authentication endpoint: getAuthorisedNames, getPermissionsForUser, hasPermission, addPermission, and removePermission.
The vulnerability allows unauthenticated users to execute these function calls with arbitrary arguments. In the logs, the exploit shows as follows:
Impact An attacker with a CodeChecker user can effectively acquire superuser permissions by calling these endpoints.
Weakness type: CWE-290, CWE-863.
