CVE-2026-42271: BerriAI LiteLLM Command Injection Vulnerability
Exploited in the wild (CISA KEV). LiteLLM is a proxy server (AI Gateway) to call LLM APIs in OpenAI (or native) format.

Should you act?
Exploited: patch now if you run it
CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.
- Yes, if you run BerriAI LiteLLM. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-06-08, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2026-06-22; treat that as the outer limit, not the target.
- EPSS 92.6%, percentile 99.8: FIRST’s model estimates a 92.6% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99.8% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Needs an account (low (any account)). Exposure depends on who can log in.
- Editorial verdict: Patch this week. LiteLLM Proxy: Three Exploited Flaws in CISA KEV — If you run a self-hosted LiteLLM Proxy older than 1.84.0, upgrade now and treat the provider keys it holds as possibly exposed; SDK-only users are not affected.
What it is
LiteLLM is a proxy server (AI Gateway) to call LLM APIs in OpenAI (or native) format. From version 1.74.2 to before version 1.83.7, two endpoints used to preview an MCP server before saving it — POST /mcp-rest/test/connection and POST /mcp-rest/test/tools/list — accepted a full server configuration in the request body, including the command, args, and env fields used by the stdio transport. When called with a stdio configuration, the endpoints attempted to connect, which spawned the supplied command as a subprocess on the proxy host with the privileges of the proxy process. The endpoints were gated only by a valid proxy API key, with no role check. Any authenticated user — including holders of low-privilege internal-user keys — could therefore run arbitrary commands on the host. This issue has been patched in version 1.83.7.
CISA’s summary
BerriAI LiteLLM contains a command injection vulnerability that could allow any authenticated user, including holders of low-privilege internal-user keys, to run arbitrary commands on the host.
