CVE-2026-47416: praisonai-platform: Any workspace member can promote themselves or others to owner via PATCH /workspaces/{id}/members/{user_id}

PraisonAI Platform is the platform layer for the PraisonAI multi-agent teams system.

Should you act?

Critical, preconditions apply

Severe if exploited, but exploitation needs conditions that may not apply to you. This signal is computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS data; it is not an editorial verdict.

  • Not in CISA KEV, but CISA’s SSVC assessment records a public proof-of-concept, so attack code exists.
  • EPSS 0.4%, percentile 29: FIRST’s model estimates a 0.4% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 29% of all scored CVEs (low). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
  • Needs an account (low (any account)). Exposure depends on who can log in.
  • Only applies if your dependency tree includes praisonai-platform (PyPI) <= 0.1.2, fixed in 0.1.4. Check your lockfile, including transitive dependencies.

What it is

PraisonAI Platform is the platform layer for the PraisonAI multi-agent teams system. Versions prior to 0.1.4 are vulnerable to vertical privilege escalation. The PATCH /workspaces/{workspaceid}/members/{userid} endpoint is gated by requireworkspacemember(workspaceid), which defaults to minrole="member" and is never overridden by the route. The handler then calls MemberService.updaterole(workspaceid, userid, body.role) which sets the target member's role to whatever the request body specifies, with no check that the caller has owner-or-admin privilege, no check that the new role is not higher than the caller's own, and no check that the caller is not silently promoting themselves. PraisonAI Platform version 0.1.4 patches the issue.

Summary

Type: Vertical privilege escalation. File: src/praisonai-platform/praisonaiplatform/api/routes/workspaces.py, lines 115-127; services/memberservice.py, lines 55-69; api/deps.py, lines 54-73. Root cause: requireworkspacemember exists with a minrole parameter (deps.py:58) but FastAPI's Depends(requireworkspacemember) cannot pass arguments, so every route uses the default "member". The route then passes the URL-supplied userid and the body-supplied role directly to MemberService.updaterole, which contains zero permission checks: it loads the member by composite key and assigns member.role = newrole. A user with the lowest possible privilege ("member") thus sets their own role to "owner" with one HTTP PATCH, completing a member-to-owner privilege escalation in a single request.

Exploitation and urgency

  • CISA KEV: not listed (no confirmed in-the-wild exploitation known to CISA).
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation poc, automatable no, technical impact total.
  • FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-10-21): 0.36% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 29.
