# CVE-2026-97229: GitLab Community Edition and Enterprise Edition Integer Overflow or Wraparound Vulnerability

**Signal:** Exploited: patch now if you run it. CISA has confirmed exploitation in the wild. (Computed from CISA KEV, EPSS and CVSS; not an editorial verdict.)

## Should you act?

- Yes, if you run GitLab Community Edition and Enterprise Edition. CISA added this CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-10-29, which means there is reliable evidence of exploitation in the wild. US federal agencies must remediate by 2026-11-01 ; treat that as the outer limit, not the target.
- EPSS 65.2% , percentile 99: FIRST’s model estimates a 65.2% chance of exploitation activity in the next 30 days, higher than 99% of all scored CVEs (very high). EPSS is a probability, not a verdict.
- Remotely reachable with no login and no user interaction. If the vulnerable service is exposed to the internet, prioritize it.
- Editorial verdict: Act now. GitLab CVE-2026-97229: CVSS 10 CI Regex RCE Now Exploited — If you run self-managed GitLab 19.2 or later, confirm today that you are on a fixed official package, or on patched Ruby if you build GitLab yourself; attackers are already trying this against public instances.

## What it is

GitLab has remediated an issue in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions from 19.2 before 19.2.8, 19.3 before 19.3.5, and 19.4 before 19.4.2 that, under certain conditions, could have allowed an unauthenticated user to execute arbitrary code on the GitLab server via a specially crafted regular expression in a CI/CD configuration, due to insufficient regular expression validation.

## Affected products (CVE record)

- GitLab GitLab: 19.2 < 19.2.8, 19.3 < 19.3.5, 19.4 < 19.4.2

## Severity

- GitLab CVSS 3.1: 10 `CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H`

## Exploitation

- CISA KEV: added 2026-10-29; federal due date 2026-11-01. Known ransomware use: Unknown.
- CISA required action: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation active , automatable yes , technical impact total .
- FIRST EPSS (model of 2026-11-05): 65.22% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days; percentile 99.
